If you ever think a donation to a shelter won't make a difference because it's not "big enough," or that it won't really help, please take a look at Angelo.

Angelo was found loose on a trail, very dehydrated and nearly starved to death. He was brought to the shelter and nursed back to health. He's now living out his happy days at one of our foster homes.

Like a mighty river that began as a few steady drops, Angelo's miracle was made possible not because somebody made a big donation, but because a bunch of people joined forces to achieve a common goal. You, too, have the power to make miracles happen.

Visit our Happy Tails! page for more stories like this.

Donating to our shelter

The Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter is a licensed Washington State non-profit organization with federal 501(c)3 non-profit status. Tangible gifts to the shelter (cash, supplies) are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS law.

There are several ways to donate to WFRS:
  • Support the shelter effortlessly and at no extra cost to yourself while you shop online!
  • Donate money (via PayPal, check or by sponsoring a ferret or two!).
  • Donate gear and supplies(see below for a complete list of what items are always needed, and always welcome).
  • Volunteer! The shelter's public hours are Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We can always use cage cleaners, people to play with the ferrets and adoption advisers (who talk to visitors about the pros and cons of ferret ownership).
  • Apply to be a foster home!
Please email us at washingtonferret@yahoo.com if you have any questions about donating to the shelter, or call us at (206) 442-2025 .

Financial donations

Monetary donations via check or PayPal are used exclusively for the benefit of our ferrets. Many large corporations will match their employees' donations to 501(c)(3) organizations. If you are interested in a matching donation, please have your employer email us so the required paperwork can be done.

You can also choose to sponsor a ferret or two. Sponsorships pay for food, utilities, bedding, medication, etc. for both our adoptable and foster animals.
Please send all checks and sponsorship forms may be sent to:

Donating time

We can always use help cleaning cages, trimming nails and just giving the ferrets attention. There are many ways you can help the shelter and improve the ferrets' quality of life! Visit our Volunteer page for a list of opportunities - something is sure to meet your needs and interests. Or, if you would like to drop by the shelter and meet some kids (and us), our public hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday. Google Map directions are here.

One of the best ways you can support the shelter is to adopt or foster one (two, three or ???) ferrets. We'd be happiest if all of our fuzzies found great new homes!

Donating supplies

We can always use donated ferret supplies and equipment. These items are considered tangible goods, and may be counted as charitable deductions on your tax return. You'll need documentation of the cost or value, such as a store receipt or appraisal form, and proof of your donation to the shelter (usually a letter or email of thanks from us).

If you have anything you'd like to donate that's not already on our wish list, please email us to see if your items might be useful. During the summer and fall, for instance, our volunteers sometimes host yard sales to raise money for the shelter.

Our ongoing needs include:
  • Vinyl flooring (not squares/tiles, but sheet) for cage floors
  • Ferret food and nutritional supplements
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Medicine and medical supplies
  • Bedding and cage furnishings
  • Litter (wood pellets only, please)
Please click through to our Wish List page for specific items in these categories, including food and medical items.

Thank you to DonTheGlove.com for supporting Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter through donations of premium disposable latex gloves!

We would like to thank Bothell Feed for the generous discount they provide WFRS with on both Barn Dry wood pellets & Mazuri Ferret Food!
